Is this a mistake of Kelly Pavlik already be looking at a title defense against John Duddy later this year? It always tends to bother me when a leading champion (even if a new one) is already talking about next defense of their title on their plate is already full. Pavlik managers have been saying for months that John Duddy is immediately after the second leg of Taylor. I have every faith in the world will beat Pavlik Taylor again, but I'm not fighting against one. If I am Pavlik, I should not be focused solely on a fight at a time?
A match against Pavlik Duddy was being prepared to defend first title since Kelly promoter Lou DiBella Taylor said that Taylor would excercise rematch clause but only after a tune-up fight.Sergio Mora was raised as a potential adversary Also . The struggle if Duddy had to be postponed when Jermaine said he wanted his rematch w / Pavlik in his next fight.I think that is all we have heard of this hav'nt Duddy.I heard anyone in the commentary on any fight Pavlik camp other than the rematch. Bob Arum is the only promoter talking. He Kelly said he will be an announcement in February On the 17th.
Just because its managers are talking about the fight that Pavlik does not think of her. I have not heard comments about Pavlik Duddy. Even if Taylor is not fighting for the title so he could just as well at least think about a battle that determines when the title is taken.
I do not know that Pavlik is focused on someone else - his handlers / promoters may be, but it seems that Taylor is a very real threat.
Personally, I think many people will be surprised at this result - this will be the first fight was a long time Taylor arrived with low expectations of the public boxing - I think it will grow without the burden of a such expectations. Kelly Pavlik is a very good hitter, but it is very limited as a boxer, if Taylor Committee on both a game plan involving a moving well, he will beat Pavlik to the punch and KO him or make a decision. If he tries to get up and go shot for shot, it will probably look a lot like the last fight.
Anyway, I think this year will be standard for "Fight of the Year"
I think it is certainly a mistake if Pavlik looking past Taylor, however, I do not think it is. Pavlik and his people know Jermain Taylor has the power to release it so it must be in good shape and fully focused.
For the rematch, I think the pressure is on Taylor and he will need to stay away from the rope and use more boxing skills to win.
It's a mistake to look to the future .. a defense and will be an even greater mistake for fans of boxing if the defense KP first title against someone like John Duddy .. the sport of boxing needs renowned games .. I think KP should watch RJJ fight a particular type of opponent
It is never a good thing to overlook an opponent, especially someone as highly qualified as Jermaine Taylor. I think the loss of Pavlik only forced Taylor to hone their skills, get that hunger more than the champion in the first place. If so, Pavlik will fight more focused Jermaine Taylor, who should fight against the smarter, more aggressive, better quality.
But I think Pavlik looking to Duddy for his next defense is not exactly giving Taylor. It was abandoned early in the first fight, and I doubt he has forgotten what it tastes like Taylor has a fist. Believe me, do not talk about a match with Pavlik Duddy as he looks beyond Taylor.
I find it hard to believe that KP would look past a guy who dropped him and hurt. God knows what happens between the ears of the Kimberley Process, but I can not imagine that he is ready for Taylor.
