Marietta Martial Arts

Marietta Martial ArtsWhere do I start in Chanbara? (The Japanese sword martial arts)?

I'm doing Muay Thai now. I was wondering if how I can find a school that teaches the art of Japanese sword. I understand there are different forms of Japanese swordsmanship and as Goshindo Kenjitsu. However, I would like to get feedback on how ya'll I could find myself in a class. I live in Marietta, Georgia, and I'm ready to go even 100 miles to see what its all about! Can you help me?

You really just have to see what's in your area. In many places do not Chanbara club / dojo. Just see what options you have before you choose a specific style.

Search online for schools in your area is a good start, but many schools still do not have a website. Ask a question in the list of your local Craig ask questions about martial arts schools in your area. Ask the local martial arts supply stores that schools are nearby. Check your yellow pages. Check the ads in local newspapers. See if there is a Yahoo group for martial arts in your area.

Once you feel comfortable that you are familiar with the area schools to decide what style interests you, call the teachers and ask them about their schools. Most, if not all invite you to find and take a look. Accept as many bids as you can.

Once you know what is in your area, you can decide who you want to learn. It may be that there is no school in your area who train with the sword. I live in Houston, TX, which has an area of 600 square miles excluding suburbs and cities and we have only two schools that teach oriental sword arts although there are reputed to be several clubs.

Good luck, I hope you find what you are looking for.

Japanese sword is not very popular in the United statistics and you are often stuck with the few styles are in your area, sometimes it can be one or two styles available, the hundreds of Japanese sword styles. Most of the time you have to do the styles popular in the region.
I recommend finding a good instructor and do not worry so much about style

Regarding the style Chanbara I've never heard of it, it is either very rare or does not exist.

Edit ... this is not a style but a sport. I remember a few decades ago. you may be better looking for a kendo dojo. it may be closer than you can get, which I think teaches pugpaw
