Mens Wrestling ShoesFight Science: Josh Barnett Interview 08/04/2007
I caught Josh Barnett MMA main eventer in the latest clinical scientific starring Billy Robinson Wrestling. GONG Magazine in Japan asked me to interview him, and it is the exclusive English version:

SW: How did you meet Billy Robinson?

JB: I met Billy through the UWF-Snakepit. I have been told by some friends of Gym (Gryphon I think) and really want to check. At that Oe-san and Miyato-san, where alone but Miyato-san told me all about Billy and I am sure when Billy come in. When I lived in Japan, whenever I in Tokyo I would go to the UWF Snakepit-forming and Billy worked with me many things. I trained there for many of my fights with training Oe-san with my striking and Billy-san Miyato improve my skills struggle.

SW: What was the first meeting like? What did you do to talk?

JB: I do not know what to expect, but he had a very high reputation for many people, so I felt very strongly want to learn from him. The first thing is first and next to an introduction that I knew Billy getting up on the mat and fight! He has taught many subtleties to lock the wrist and double top that night, showed me what I call "Billy Neck Crank" and coach me and Miyato-san that we fought .

SW: Please explain your passion for the Catch Wrestling

JB: It is a root of the tree of MMA. Catch went to Brazil with Mitsuo Maeda, formed the basis of the New Japan Pro Wrestling and later shot by Japanese Gotch and Billy, and is an art based on tests of battle. He is aggressive and explosive and has a history of substance around the world and was my first major exposure to the bid.

One of the reasons why I am in MMA because of Pro Wrestling. I always knew that wrestling is a sport of real tough men and that most people only knew the surface of the Pro Wrestling. It irritates me to see something like catch, used to be known and popular throughout the world, it is ignored. Catch has been here before and BJJ BJJ is not the end all, especially presentations.

I'm going to catch the fight back to the forefront and honor again and I'll do it by beating my opponents.

SW: Who are your top 3 favorite catch wrestlers can catch all the time?

JB: Karl Gotch and Billy Robinson for bringing the catch to Japan and the creation of the people who revolutionized wrestling / MMA. Ad Santel to declare war against the best judoka and wrestlers have been taken showing the strongest wrestlers in the world.

SW: What do you think of the current catch and what can be done to improve it?

JB: Some say the capture is an esoteric art or die, so I do not think it's coming to the fore, it is making its presence again. They are people like me and Megumi Fujii on behalf of some who are actively competing, but unfortunately there is not enough of us there. Competition is the only way to truly promote the art and increase awareness.

I think the catch would be much better to bring MMA fans and fighters. I see many top amateur wrestlers go to BJJ gyms because that's what they think you have to train to learn submission. Most of the time however, these trainers train BJJ fighters in ways that are cons-productive to one of the wrestlers skills and strengths. Everyone needs a game off their backs, but not everyone has to use a portion of the Guard as a BJJ player.

With the active competitors out there in MMA and submission wrestling representative capture is the only way to disseminate art. Seeing winners out there using will catch this person who might be unaware of capture to make the decision to go to a gym and learn to fight and not sit on their butts.

SW: How did you connect with Erik Paulson as your coach?

JB: I met a few years ago many Erik least one of his seminars in Seattle. From there.
