3 simple steps to help speed up your computer Tired of waiting for what feels like hours to start your computer, load a program or, as it often seems, do absolutely nothing? If you're one of millions of PC users who have a slow modem, follow these three simple steps to speed up your computer :
Step One: Clean your desk
Take a look at your desktop. Shortcuts, files, folders - if it's anything like the normal desktop used well, it is cluttered and messy. Take a minute to evaluate. How many of these shortcuts you use regularly? How many of these files / folders could be moved to your My Documents or My Pictures folders? These records are made to store documents, photos and multimedia files. Your office is not.
Are there any files or folders that you often use? By moving them in My Documents and adding a link to your desktop is just as fast access to the document, and actually speeds up file retrieval. Clutter on your desktop PC can slow down because your office is not to store or manipulate these files.
