The Mma Gym's Original celebrates 10 years in 2010 In the summer of the new millennium, 2000, under the shadow of the steeple of Chevron, a cabal warrior athletes built a palestra for collegiate, international, and Olympic wrestlers to re-aim their boats for the new arena Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Behind the red door of blood from an industrial alley in El Segundo, California, with no outward signs of Commerce, the Learning Center R1 quietly began what would prove to be a paradigm shift in skill sets and expectations necessary to succeed in sport the fastest growth in America. This fully equipped, no-nonsense establishment has been open for business men seriously desire to learn and improve skills in their pursuit of martial excellence. Nearly a decade ago the pilgrimage began what would become a Mecca for artists fight against the world.
Initially named "raw" (Real American Wrestling), the vision was former World Champion Wrestling Football, Rico Chiapparelli's. It was Rico who in 1996 introduced the world to MMA then United States national team wrestler and now UFC Hall of Fame member, Randy Couture, Pride Middleweight and Light Heavyweight Champion, Dan Henderson, Frank Trigg Welterweight Champion WFA MARS absolute champion, Tom Erikson, IFL Light Heavyweight Champion Vladimir Matyushenko And Olympic silver medalist Matt Lindland ... they were to be known as: Team RAW. These athletes were World class had nearly exhausted their welcome in most martial arts gyms around Southern California. These nomadic hunters and ronin went on a quest to find "all disciplines under one roof" location to plant the banner RAW.

With the success of the UFC came the hunger of a center-based training, returning to the source of all things martial ... where R1 tagline-mantra: "All forms are at ease."
