| MarketplaceTeaching Martial Arts The effects of ego when teaching martial arts I am very proud that I have no ego. It really makes me the most humble person I ever met. Regardless of whether we admit it or not, we all have an ego. That's what we do with what me and how we demonstrate to our peers and martial arts students that determine the good and the type of monitor us ....
With over 36 years martial arts experience I've seen many different types of martial arts instructors and self-defense. They all, including me, have their weaknesses and strengths ....
In Here I Am God
While some ego, self-confidence is necessary to teach, but there are those who teach themselves and those who teach their students. In the few cases I have seen the God complex in a martial art or self-defense instructor, it is generally for the instructor. Even a veteran very good teacher of martial arts that I knew personally, seemed to teach himself. Let us not be confused with a military way of teaching martial arts. The council of war, after all the word means war and most of martial arts taught or have had a military base at some point in history. His students had a lot of confidence, but, alas, I note when I asked one student argued newly listed his name, had his ego and pride too. This, in my opinion, is unfortunate because a martial arts instructor may, for example, offer many positive features of its students. If you are looking for a school of martial arts or self-defense, watching classes and do not forget the comments above that I did. Talk to the instructor, but talk to students as well. Go with your gut and your cognitive processes.
I can not be touched!
I personally found in a large number of instructors. The instructor gets hit, perhaps slightly wounded, and he is embarrassed by the fact that his student was able to hit him / her.
I really need to answer that in this article.
What do you teach them? " Do not you think that you should be proud of your student to be able to hit you? " So what if you just got a little booboo on the nose and maybe on your ego if you think about it in a negative way. One of your lessons students just sunk as REFLEX LEARNED! Is not this what you wanted to happen?
Now you have two choices, you can feel better by treating it in a negative way. Lower your student's control. Tell your students that was not part of the drill or why this technique would not actually work blah blah blah OR you can help your students feel good about his accomplishment. Here's what I did and no, I'm not perfect and yes I am sure I have an ego or I would not be able to write this article martial arts ,....
"What all see it! This is what happens when you train hard Great Job John! I felt a bit that you really are to develop some power. Now, punch in again if I can practice blocking that since I made a mistake and you can practice this effective combination. "
Is this an ideal way to cope? I need a big ego in effect saying that it was, but at least my student feels good about his accomplishment.
It is the right way because I say it
This could be more of a teaching style. Traditionally, not many questions were asked of the training school ancient martial arts, but I tend to believe in this era of modern teaching, not wanting to ask questions is a matter of ego or a question lack of knowledge. Even large classes should be able to have periods of questions. Naturally, I'll listen to all opinions on this person may have.
Please tell me how to teach in my class
I now recall two people who went through this phase. A new teacher one of my friends and I tried to help and me.
